The answer so far
For the UAE, first identify whether you are an incoming traveller or a resident importing by shipment, then check the exact medicine and current EDE process; those routes are not interchangeable.
The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) publishes a service for personal medicines that distinguishes visiting travellers from residents receiving shipments. It describes electronic pre-approval as optional for visiting travellers in the circumstances stated, while documentation and other requirements still apply. Check the exact product and current authority guidance.12

Who operates the service?
The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention lists the personal-medicine import permit among services transferred to EDE. The current EDE service page distinguishes incoming travellers from residents importing medicines through shipping companies; those are different situations. Use the current EDE page rather than assuming an older ministry procedure is unchanged.21
Controlled medicines and documentation
EDE describes electronic pre-approval as optional for visiting travellers and says controlled narcotic and psychotropic medicines may be carried within the patient’s need for a maximum of three months, subject to its conditions. Its FAQ says travellers with narcotic or psychotropic medicines must carry both a prescription and a medical report authenticated by the relevant health authority. Other wording on the same page refers to a prescription or report. Because those statements differ, confirm the required documents and authentication with EDE for the exact medicine and journey; an optional electronic application does not remove other requirements.1
What the documents should contain
The EDE service page lists the patient’s full name, medicine, dose, dosage form, treatment duration, issue date and physician’s name for the prescription, which it says should be issued within the last three months and recognised or stamped by the treating healthcare facility. For the medical report it lists the patient’s name, diagnosis, treatment plan, issue date and physician’s name, with a document issued within the last year and recognised or stamped by the facility. These are the page’s stated document conditions, not a guarantee that every product is permitted. Check current requirements directly before departure.1
Transit and quantities
The EDE page describes a specific transit situation in which approval is not required when a passenger does not leave the airport. Do not extend that statement to every stopover, product or entry into the country. Its quantity and document provisions depend on the item and situation; read the current page and ask the responsible authority about ambiguity.1
Supplements and peptides
The service information is not a blanket approval for seller-defined peptide stacks or all supplements. Check product classification, original packaging and the other countries on the route. Airport screening and the medicine’s temperature requirements remain separate checks.13

Check whether each source applies to visitors or residents and to entry, exit or transit. For the other parts of the trip see airport security, crossing borders and the travel hub.
