The answer so far
Selank is discussed for stress and cognition, but no validated everyday benefit or reliable effect should be assumed.
Selank is a synthetic peptide discussed for anxiety, cognition and stress. FDA says it lacks important information about safety for Selank acetate in humans and identifies potential immunogenicity and peptide-impurity risks for proposed compounded routes. A product sold online is not automatically the same as a formulation used in a study or authorised in a particular country.12

Online descriptions may call Selank a nootropic or anxiolytic. Those descriptions do not define a regulated product, a validated indication or a reliable expected effect. A chemical database record establishes identity information only; it does not imply regulatory review or approval.
For the everyday focus and stress questions, compare Semax and Selank and the different outcomes their studies measured.1
What the available evidence means
Small studies, regional reports or experiments in healthy volunteers may generate hypotheses, but do not by themselves establish a general treatment effect or long-term safety. A Belgian laboratory identified Selank and Semax in two seized, unlabelled preparations. The researchers noted that these peptides are also sold online; their analysis does not establish where those particular seized samples were purchased or the quality of other products. Identifying an ingredient is not a clinical efficacy or sterility test. See what a certificate of analysis can and cannot show. A separate imaging report included Semax, Selank and placebo in different groups: see what it measured.2
What did one anxiety study report?
A Russian-language paper published in 2008 compared Selank with medazepam, an anxiety medicine, in 62 people described as having generalized anxiety disorder or neurasthenia. The English abstract reports 30 people in the Selank group and 32 in the comparison group, and says the authors observed similar anxiety effects. The abstract does not provide the symptom scores, study duration, blinding methods or a placebo comparison; the full paper was not reviewed here. A reported similarity in a small study does not establish that the treatments are equivalent, that Selank works better than placebo, or that it is safe long term.3
What did another comparison report?
A 2014 Russian-language clinical report compared Selank with phenazepam, an anxiety medicine, in 60 people with anxiety-related and somatoform disorders. Its English abstract reports an anxiety-reducing effect with Selank. It does not provide enough detail on group allocation, blinding, placebo or numerical between-group effects to establish how much benefit Selank caused or whether it was equivalent to the comparator. The full Russian paper was not assessed here. This report adds a human comparison, not proof of long-term effectiveness or safety. A separate 2015 report compared phenazepam alone with phenazepam plus Selank, but its abstract does not establish whether the groups were comparable or the combination was safe. Compare all three anxiety reports and their limits.45
FDA safety gap
FDA lists Selank acetate among substances for which compounded products may pose immunogenicity risks from aggregation and peptide-related impurities. It says important information is lacking about possible safety issues in humans. This does not prove that every material is harmful, but it means reassuring claims outrun the regulator's identified evidence.1
Questions to ask
Was the exact formulation tested in people? Was there a meaningful comparison and adequate follow-up? Were the ingredients independently identified and tested for potency, sterility and impurities? If those answers are missing, describe Selank as an investigational or marketed research peptide rather than a proven treatment.12
